• WELCOME TO PUPIL PERSONNEL SERVICES

Welcome to Pupil Personnel Services for the North Salem School District. Pupil Personnel Services are those legally required services that enable students to benefit from instructional programs such as nursing, guidance, psychology, and special education. The Pupil Personnel Services department serves all children in the district, including general education students, students with disabilities, and students at risk.

The North Salem Central School District is committed to providing a full continuum of programs and services to meet the individual needs of students with disabilities. In accordance with the student’s Individualized Education Plan or Section 504 Accommodation Plan, programs and related services are provided by NY State certified special education teachers, speech/language therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school counselors, school psychologists, and other specialists.

Special Education services are available for students with disabilities between the ages of 3 and 21, or until they earn their high school diploma. Pre-school age students with an Individual Education Plan receive services through from either Westchester County or Putnam County approved providers, depending on the student’s home address. School-age students with an Individual Education Plan receive services from District staff, or through approved agencies, other school districts, the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES), or NY State-approved private schools.

We are dedicated to working with families to support our students with disabilities in accessing education in the least restrictive environment within the North Salem Central School District. If an appropriate program is not available for a student in-district, alternate NY State-approved programs may be considered, at which point we will work alongside our families to find the most appropriate program to meet the unique needs of the student.

Our goal is to provide all of our students with equal access to education. We welcome your feedback as we strive to continually improve our programs and services to meet the diverse, yet unique, needs of each of our students.
