• AP Music Theory

    *Prerequisite: Music Theory I or teacher permission

    AP Music Theory is a half-credit course that builds upon skills and knowledge learned in Music Theory I.  Students learn the theory and structure behind music and apply this learning to construct rhythms, scales, chords, and melodies, as well as analyze how composers have constructed music over time.  The curriculum focuses on Aural Skills, Analytical Skills, Composition/Arranging Skills, and Performance Skills. At the end of the course, students will take the AP Music Theory Exam, and upon passing, should receive college credit by placing out the first semester of college Music Theory.  This course is recommended for those who are interested in pursuing a career in music. All students are expected to take the AP exam in May. The AP exam fee must be assumed by the student. Please refer to the AP Exam Fee Schedule for more information.
